I found the best place to play was a 24 hour arcade located on highway 441 just west of my home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I thought I was an expert with my 80,000 to 90,000 point scores. How amazed I was to meet a pair of young men in 1982 or 83? who put me to shame. They were able to do all of the skills described by the Minnisota trio! They claimed to have discovered the techniques themselves. One of them (I've long since forgotten their names) claimed to have the world record of some 900,000 points. I later saw his name in print in a magazine attesting to that. They claimed they had recently gone to a tournament in I believe Minnesota, in which they had won at several games including Ms Pacman. Is it possible that the Minnisota trio learned from this pair or vice versa? I watched several fascinating sessions in which they experimented improving their techniques. I also witnessed an attempt at a new world record. He began about 7 PM. At 2AM he got up and walked away with two men still left! He explained that he felt he'd lost his second man two early to set a record. His score was about 650,000. Needless to say I slowly learned most of their technique. I can reach the 300,000 level consistently but I usually hit the wall shortly thereafter. My top score is 335,000. My problem beating this is twofold. First when I reach the point where the monsters are going faster than Ms. Pacman all the time, I don't possess the physical dexterity one needs to avoid them for long. Secondly it takes me too long -2 to 2 1/2 hours- to reach this point; time I rarely have to spare anymore. Thus I seldom get the practice necessary to improve. In summary your website brought back some fond memories. Thanks! If anyone out there is interested in learning a few more wrinkles to improve their score plaese let them know of my existence. My knowledge is theirs for the asking. Regards. Bailiff
